Kelli Gordon, Junior, Randolph Community College, Fall 2002.

Most enjoyed - Least enjoyed:
"I most enjoyed the event assignments because they presented me with the opportunity to learn, by observing John's style, how to get the best coverage quickly and still maintain creativity. I also greatly appreciated John's willingness to allow me to shoot as well." - "I least enjoyed the endless piles of CD's to be burned and filed."

What I learned:

"I gained a greater understanding of all the aspects of running a photography business including the client-photographer relationship, estimates and billing, marketing and production. I also learned how to recognize and use your resources to the fullest. Overall the experience has been extremely beneficial in showing me the path to starting my own business."

"A Word About The John Harrington Intern Experience:

I have found that being a full-time (40 hours a week) intern for John has been vital to my learning experience because it has allowed me to be 100% committed to my work. Anyone who knows John can tell you that he is completely devoted to his photography business and he looks for the same quality in an intern. So...my advise is to try if at all possible to be a full-time intern because it will open you up to many more opportunities for shoots and experiences."

(Above) I asked Kelli and Miss America 2003 to pose at a "Make a Difference Day" event, where Kelly was assisting me. We were there in assignment for USA Today's USA Weekend section to cover Miss America's participation in the event, which included shovelling wood chips, assembling playground pieces using wrenches, ratchets, and a hammer.

(Above) Kelli assisted on a shoot for a new cancer-detecting technology which integrates the standard method of reviewing x-rays with a digital analysis station that can aid a physician in the process. Here, after helping to set the lighting, she sits in for a test to determine of our integration of the monitor light, the x-ray light table, and our geled and main light balanced correctly.
(Left) During a portrait for a corporate brochure, Kelli sat in so that I could balance the lighting on the subject with the ambient light coming in from the outside window.

(Above) Kelli spent the day travelling with the candidate for Mayor of Washington, assisting me as the official campaign photographer. Here, she takes a break while the (now) re-elected Mayor does a live shot for a television station as he visits as many campaign stops as he can during the day. All in all, we started at 6:30 am, and ended at 11:30 pm. Our day went from bright sunny day, to torrential downpour, and ended at a victory gala downtown.
